For Sale: Erik the Flutemaker Bamboo Sax - $50 OBO

Hi all - Tried but never got into playing this very well, so I am selling it. Looks the same as the ones on this page: http://www.eriktheflutemaker.com/Soprano.htm Frankly, I can't remember if I have the regular soprano OR the concert D, so I am just asking $50 (and I will pay shipping costs). Comes...

Whistles for sale (low end & unusual scales)

Hi all – I’ve got TOO many whistles, and I’m ready to part with some. I’ve listed retail but will take any reasonable offer – my MAIN goal is to get them to a home where they will be played, so all offers considered. Picture at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/31352510@N06/2935930738/ Here are the whis...

Oh, thanks everyone. I might wait a bit and check out the new H2.

Sounds like I probably need to up the budget a bit to get something decent. It'll just be my birthday treat (July)...or perhaps I can unload some dusty whistles...

What do you use to record?

Hi all - I'm looking for a digital recorder; I checked the archives and did read some of the posts, but I'm sort of technically dumb and was a bit overawed. I'd just like something that records OK enough for me to be able to hear the quality of my playing (singing, whistle, fiddle & guitar) so I...

I started learning the guitar and once I could fiddle my way thru most basic songs, I discovered something MORE fun and much EASIER - the ukulele. I know - don't laugh. It's a sweet little instrument with the portability almost of a whistle (well, not quite). Only four strings make it not very intim...

That IS really weird! I can't imagine it would sound very much like a fiddle, but who knows?

Well, I would if I could get away with it!

Maybe someone else wants to don Victorian era clothes and keep me company? The Dickens Faire is right around the corner you know...

Hey all - I rarely post but check in once in a while to see if a gathering is happening. Halleloo, I have been rewarded! I'm 85% sure I can make Oct 7, but I will be attending a ball later that evening (remember when I came in vampire costume? same organizers) so I'll be dressed as a Victorian tart....

San Fran Free Folk Fest, June 24 - 25

If you live in the Bay Area, you might want to check out the Free Folk Festival this weekend. It's Sat & Sun, and there's workshops and concerts galore. There's a whistle workshop, an Irish slow session, and Irish dancing classes - plus LOTS more dance & music, and informal sessions as well....

I sort of play violin and have considered doing this. A friend who's tried it cautioned this: 1) don't put the strings on your nice, expensive fiddle - the different tension could cause issues in the long run. 2) those LOW notes resonating thru your jaw/cheek - be careful. My friend's fillings came ...

I say Irish whistle, because most people don't know what a "whistle" or "tinwhistle" is, but with "Irish whistle," they get the idea it's an Irish-music instrument. Last night I saw a French film called Joyeux Noel (which is REALLY good by the way - all about music brin...

Some of you may remember years ago when I would post on this forum, but I got into ukulele and fiddle, so my whistles became very infrequently played. I did practice for my annual Christmas busking, but that was just a dozen tunes or so on one whistle. Christmas carols are easy. Well, last night, I ...

Cleaning dusty Shaws?

I've let my whistles sit for far too long uncovered and unplayed, and now my two Shaws are dusty. Any ideas for the best way of cleaning that wooden mouthpiece part? I don't want to submerge in water if that will cause problems. I've dusted with dry cloth, of course, but they still taste terrible. I...

I am a BIG fan of earplugs and I have to say, they are not just for loud sessions or practicing those higher octaves. People often don't realize how much damage is done to their ears from many "everyday" noises - such as trucks passing you on the freeway (if the windows are rolled down) an...
