Re: Seán Potts RIP

Thanks for the news... I'm really saddened by this. Recently, once again, was thinking about recording some tunes to send him in appreciation of his music; I knew I'd be running against time, so to speak, and time has run out. His music with the Chieftains was a great inspiration to me.

Re: tunes with parts in different keys

playing the wrong style because that's all you know how to do, versus making an educated decision to push boundaries Sorry to belabor, but that is one relevant point. There's a difference between absorbing so much of an aesthetic to allow one to push the boundaries from within, versus overlaying ex...

Re: Looking for a Structured Practice Regime

At the most remedial level, start with a slow metronome setting (I suggest 60 bpm, playing a single note per 2 or even 4 clicks), and concentrate on relaxed execution of each note in a tune or exercise. The emphasis is to gain awareness of excess tension, "sympathetic" tensions (where movi...

Re: A Masters Touch Seamus Ennis..... Recording?

very note in every dance tune (but not airs) Ennis recorded. Unfortunately not all of Ennis' dance tunes are transcribed. For instance, Pat missed "The Boys of Bluehill". Which is a shame I ~really~ don't know how that tune could be missed... a real tour-de-force of piping. I think at lea...

Re: Some thoughts on Piping and ornaments.

> The real trick is knowing when to use them Yeah, when I first started, I turned almost every 3 note combination (like GAG or GFG) into a roll because, well, rolls/ornaments were so unique and attractive. I was desperately noodling, figuring out how to get them in. Of course, I didn't understand th...
