One thing they caught me on: I'd bought a car within 6 months of moving to CA, before I had a clue this is where I'd end up. California assumed that I must have bought it out-of-state to avoid paying CA sales tax on it. When I registered it, they assessed the value of the car and tried to hit me wit...

I've no questions to contribute, but please do tell them that we'd love to see them here in Santa Barbara again! (I guess this qualifies as the "Los Angeles area" if you stretch it a bit.)

I'm on my 3rd Tipple flute. My original 1-piece low D and G flutes have been passed along to a couple of friends, but my 3-piece D is traveling to Big Sur with me this weekend. Love those Tipples!

Doug, I'm very sorry to hear about your father. My prayers and condolences are with you.

(Blowing thick layers of dust off an old and buried thread) <Cough! Cough!> I'm guessing the answer is "no", but I've just got to ask: did anyone here ever score one of these whistles? I just e-mailed Overton, but since nothing else has been said about these in a year, I'm sure their deal...

Re: re Steven Cox performance bamboo flute info request

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I am clearly a clueless newbee and very much appreciate your willingness to share your experience with me. OK, here's the deal. Right now, you're thinking "I need a flute," as in "one flute." One flute, you think, is going to solve all yo...

Does anyone know what happened to Aaron Heinig's Blissful Bamboo Flutes site? It seeems to have disappeared. I have a couple of his flutes--an Eb and a little D-minor one--and they're very nicely made. If anyone has his e-mail, I'd appreciate it if you'd send it to me as a PM; I never had the chanc...

Re: re Serenity bamboo flutes

Thanks, Daryl for the suggestion regarding Serenity flutes. I can't connect to your link, but will be searching for the Serenity flutes. The price is very attractive. Please do let us know how you like whichever flute you do get! By the way, I tried the link I posted and it worked for me. I wonder ...

I do hope Mr. Olwell keeps making his bamboo flutes. The consistency and volume of the praise everyone has for them tells me that I've got to have one eventually.

How are these volume-wise? Thanks The Serenity flutes? I'd need to do a side-by-side test with my Tipple to give a more accurate answer, but to my ear it honks out pretty well. As much as I love my Tipple (and I do!), I find the Serenity low D is the one I usually reach for. It's easy to play, ligh...

Hi, I know I'm in the minority on this here at C&F, but if you're looking for a bamboo flute that's truly inexpensive and still has a good sound, my personal favorite is the low D flute from Serenity Bamboo Flutes: http://www.serenitybambooflutes.com/ Their dark/glossy low D is only $26 includin...

Oh, well, since I'm already off-topic, I might as well take the plunge. I couldn't resist trying to find that story I just mentioned. It's called "Abandon All Heat, Ye Who Enter Here," by Phil Bertoni. According to http://www.logan.com/loganberry/stump.html it was published in the Septembe...

Nelson,

Hmmm.... You wouldn't by chance be familiar with a little tale about the time Maxwell's Demons went on strike, would you?

Oh, dear! I'm afraid I've just gone OT!
