Hey guys, thanks for the help. I've only had the flute for a few days, and it's getting easier to play all the time. Once I warm it up, I can get the D harder than I was before, which is encouraging. Still working on it though. I tried blowing down instead of over, that helped for not jumping octave...

hard D

How do you do it!? I'm baffled. I'm listening to Conal O Grada, who has such a loud, hard, honking low D, but all I can get is a quiet, weak, boring tone. When I blow harder, it just jumps up to the high D. I'm getting a little better at getting the other notes to sound strong, but the D seems impos...

I spent a few hours on Saturday playing the flutes Jon C. is making, and you probably won't need another for quite a while.
Yeah, I'm REALLY looking forward to getting my flute from Jon, but I love to think ahead too.

BTW -- Kevin, I got the WFO CD yesterday, it's great!

Gee, too bad I don't have 925 bucks on hand. A Hammy's my dream flute; I think I'll get on his list for a keyless once I get my flute from Jon.

A really good flute-fiddle album is Ceol Aduaidh by Frankie Kennedy and Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh.

You can listen to it here: http://www.greenlinnet.com/listen/ra/3090.ram

But wouldn't that affect both octaves, not just the upper one?

I can't say for the Healy, but I do know that I love my Burns flute, and people that have played it have liked it as well. Casey is also a great guy. I cracked my flute head two months ago, and he's giving me a whole new headjoint.

Ciunas

Hi Folks, Here's a great new band, Ciunas www.ciunas.net. They have a terrific flute player, Nic Buckmelter, who I will hopefully be taking lessons from soon. They have a really great sound, check out these mp3 samples. Fox on the Town Morning Thrush Aren't they good!? I really want to get their CD,...

The video quality is very bad, but the sound is still there, and Conal's playing sure is great. Epsecially when he does his solo with Tommy Hayes, he sure packs a lot of punch into that last tune!

What style of flute have you been playing on? Well, I've been playing one of Casey Burns' Folk Flutes. I'm not really sure what it's modeled after, but it doesn't have big holes. That's the reason I was worried about switching to a larger holed flute, but seeing what people here have to say, I thin...

Thanks for the help guys.
Listen to some players and see who you like and what they're playing.
Well, yeah, the main reason I am so interested in the Pratten is because I really like the powerful sound of Conal O Grada. He plays a Pratten style flute, doesn't he?

Flute models

Hi Folks, I need a little advice. I'm getting a new flute from Jon, and I need to choose what model I want. I can get a Rudall and Rose smaller-holed flute, Rudall and Carte larger-holed flute, or a Pratten. I'm stumped. I've heard that Prattens get a nice, big tone, but that they also take a lot of...

Gee, John would be the perfect replacement for Donogh. He would make Lunasa complete. It's sad to see Donogh go, though.
