Thank you...a simple yes or no would have sufficed here. You said that you've shopped at them. I was asking if you had an abundance. The eye roll emoticon was unnecessary.

Re: Truth about WalMart?

In spite of its size Walmart really only hits a relatively small portion of the market in any one type of goods and only "threatens" small businesses that are targeted to the bottom of the food chain, so to speak. As someone who on one occasion had to beg for food for my daughter's breakf...

I was a young single GI and went to see it in the base theater. The place was packed and some young teenage girls ended up sitting next to me. When the head popped out of the hole in the boat it didn't really bother me that much but when the teeny bopper next to me shrieked at the top of her lungs a...

Re: Truth about WalMart?

And sometimes I even shop at the local "mom and pop" stores that Walmart has supposedly put out of business. I am assuming that you have quite a few Mom and Pop shops in your vicinity? And you know of loads of them as well that are still thriving? Yep - I just said I shop at 'em, didn't I...

That's not exactly news. Yes, there are legitimate cases of post tramatic stress syndrome but they are a lot rarer than the popular press would lead you to believe and I've long suspected that most of the real cases were people who were a bit shakey going in. For those who are mentally healthy it re...

Re: Truth about WalMart?

The chain does 32 BILLION DOLLARS a year. Oooh, they're successful - they must be evil. We won't get into name-calling or labels. I'm presenting the facts with a few comments. ... And consider this - what are the first three letters of the word associate?   Oh, yes, sterling journalism, that! :ro...

I remember once seeing a test that kids were required to pass to graduate in a small Missouri community in the late 19th century. Most of today's college graduates could probably not pass that test. I'm reasonably well educated and at least as bright as your average bear yet I was able to answer onl...

When I lived in Iceland I almost got used to seeing English language movies dubbed into French or German AND subtitled in Icelandic.

Here in the US anyone who can show that they were exposed to Agent Orange during their service should certainly contact the VA and get it on record. It will bump your priority up a couple of levels if you ever need VA health services. Do it now even if you don't need health services now because it c...

I don't see what's so disturbing about it. I will say it's an incredibly stupid image to use in an advertisement, though! :)

By virtue of the fact that busses drive on roads instead of tracks, it can't be as pretty a view. That's exactly the opposite of what I've observed. I only took Amtrak once but it was a long trip (Chicago to New Orleans) and I discovered something interesting along the way - by and large train trac...

EB White, author of Stuart Little and Charlotte's Web, was also a columnist and essayist. He lived in Maine for many years, and at some point found that all mail going from one town to another went through some city (probably Augusta, Portland, or Bangor, I can't remember which). Of course, this se...

There is currently a hideous purple billboard on my commute that reads "Doobie Brothers Kiss Twisted Sister" - it is for a local radio station.
