What are you thinking of? Calvin wasn't technically a Presbyterian.Walden wrote:In recent times, anyway.glauber wrote:Presbyterians usually irritate people by being too tollerant, not the other way around.

Y'know, I was brought up Presbyterian, and throughout all the history we got in Sunday school, I distinctly recall thinking how nasty a fellow Knox came across to me.
As for the Wee Frees, Bill Watkins said it best: they go through the whole week being miserable, and on Sundays they're not even allowed to do that.

Was brought up, and still am, technically, a Presbyterian, despite my inability to agree to all aspects of the creeds. (So I don't say'em. ssshhhh.)
Would be a UU if they didn't sometimes seem so adverse to the possibility of theism, and also if my entire family weren't still Pres.
Not trying to make this into a religion thread.

Dunno, Nano. Feels like the leadership at my church has been undertaking a sort of "revival" and everything feels a bit more conservative than it did when I was a kid. Actually, I'm happy to have my kids involved in things such as church sponsored Habitat for Humanity trips,etc...and they get on my case about not singing all the words of songs, or reciting all the liturgies.
I think it's valuable for kids to have a spiritual launchpad even if their Mom's a heretic.
