I tend to get too carried away on the subject of unusual materials for whistles, so many of the threads were started by me. My latest was this one: http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=21388. When I last responded in it, I pointed out the existence of machinable ceramic; ceramics that can be easily drilled and run on a lathe, among other things. That might be yet another interesting whistle material!

From what I've seen on documentaries, etc. those elephant poachers just kill the elephants, saw the tusks off and leave the rest there to rot. I'm sure that's what Loren meant.
Best,

Of course I think many of the animals killed for herbal medicines are killed needlessly too, ditto for the one's taken for fur, and so on.
