Tonalization

Post by WhistlingGypsy »

Has anyone had any experience with the Tonalization exercises developed by Suzuki? I recently started with a new fiddle teacher and he uses this method to develop tone and intonation. It is basically an exercise that you do using a metronome set a 60 beats/minute in 4/4 time. You play most of the 'ringing notes' on the D, A and E strings ( I'm sure it gets more involved as we move on) going up and then back down. I have found it to be excellent for my intonation and tone - so much so that several people have noted the improvement in my playing in the 6 weeks since I started with this teacher.

Just wondered if anyone else has any experiences with this.

If you google Tonalization there are books by Suzuki on the subject. Also I believe most of his music teaching books had some Tonalization exercises in them.
