I was just given a little book:The Brilliant Irish Flute : The Inish Turk Beg sessions.

I only just got it so I am not going to say much. It's nicely produced, there are fine pics in the book and there are two CDs included, one of traditional music and one of other music. Most flute playing is done by Alan Doherty but Peter Molloy is among the list of guests. It is made clear from the start it's 'not for technicians or specialists' and it looks like a few people had a lot of fun making it.

There is a double album as well. First is trad tunes, second one is covers of pop songs like this.

I bought it myself. It may not be the perfect cup of tea for the strictest trad heads, but I really enjoyed it. I thought the pop covers were fun, the trad tunes were slick, and the pictures in the book looked like everyone on Inish Turk Beg had a hell of a good time.

I think it's pretty cool. I'm having leanings in that direction, combining both Trad and Neo Trad (e.g. Finnegan and McGoldrick), but I'd yet to hear anyone going that far into pop/R&B. Pushing the boundaries is a good thing. Whether one likes it or not, and whether it works is another story.
