Thanks to a friend for pointing out the post so I could respond.

Time I used to spend on C&F is now better spent playing the pipes instead of reading and writing about them.

That was Lewis Blevins on the ULISTSERV!! Surely someone named glands wouldn't have left C&F and gone over there to raise a little heck. Oh, I do recall something like that happening now that I mentioned it.

wanna stick to the topic of this forum discussion as opposed to ragging on each other? starting to sound a bit catty here, not to diss the feline population of the world.

so...

it is a nice chanter isn't it.

peace

:)

Thanks John. It appears to be an awesome chanter.
Mixed emotions here... I'm depressed the price shot up so high that I'm not willing to jump for it but I'm pleased it will bring so much money for the benefit.
Let's say it tops out at $3,000 and the new owner wants to add 3 keys... the total would put it somewhere around $3,600. This would set a new high for a D chanter... right ?
Childress currently lists the price of a full set in blackwood at $3,600.

OK, it was me and while I'm still awake I'll share my thoughts. I'm a good friend of Jerry's and this was a nice way to take part in the benefit. I look at it this way -- $1,000 towards the benefit, because Jerry and his family are the finest people you'll meet, and he's had some issues none of us would want to contemplate -- and, I got a pretty good chanter from Benedict Koehler for $1,425! Hey, it's my logic and I'm sticking with it. I'm scheduled to take a lesson from Benedict at the Holloween Tionol so I better get my stuff together or he might confiscate it. A tip of the hat to the other bidders who kept me up late tonight. Now I have to figure out what to tell my wife about why I'm up at 1:30 AM on the internet! I know what you're thinking, and that's what worries me. Best, Pipey (Damnreed for the auction.)

i tip my hat to the winner. good job. had i known how close i was, i probably would have given you a better run. (on ebay, of course, you have no idea- your max may have been 3000 we will never know) if i do not get any of the related jerry items (flute, whistle) i will make a donation. i agree with pipey- thats exactly what i would have been doing had i won. but its not over, we still have a vintage flute, an Oriorden whistle, and i think a seth flute if it ever comes up. well done pipey, and everyone else. and of course bk.

...and my congratulations too, though I wish it had been me. I suspect that we could have gone on for a while and I still wouldn't have prevailed. Better luck next time. ...
It was quite exciting though, and it looks and sounds like a beautiful instrument.

Big thanks to Paul Reid for letting me use his picture of the BK Benefit Chanter as my first and only avatar. And more thanks for his generous offer to send me the DVD of Benedict playing the chanter.
